KENNEWICK - Wa-Hi dropped two girls tennis matches here Saturday.

Kennewick won three-of-four singles matches to edge Wa-Hi 4-3.

The Blue Devils only managed one win Saturday afternoon against Southridge. The Suns took the match 6-1.

"Today was a tough one," Wa-Hi coach Keven Peck said. "The girls played really well at times, but couldn't find a way to close out games. They never gave up and kept battling for every point, but it just wasn't to be our day."

Wa-Hi got wins from Kristine Leier and Chantel Dejarlais in doubles and Allison Mehn and Rosa Tobin also won their doubles match.

Both duos won in straight sets with Leier and Dejarlais defeating Daynta Bolt and Myanna Harris 6-3, 6-0. Mehn and Tobin beat the Lion pair of Natilee Sanders and Hanoor Mahal 6-1, 6-1.

"There were some bright spots on the day." Peck said. "In the morning matches, we got outstanding performances from our No.1 doubles team (Kristine Leier/Chantell Desjarlias) and our No.2 doubles team (Rosa Tobin/ Allison Mehn). Both teams played well and earned us solid points."

The Blue Devils only earned a 6-1, 6-1 win from Claire Konen, who defeated Kennewick's Madison Croft, in singles play as the Lions pulled out the 4-3 win.

Against the Suns, Wa-Hi's only point came from a three-set win by the doubles team of Konen and Tianna Cummings. Konen and Cummings out lasted Sarah Morgan and Priscilla Cancado 5-7, 6-4, 6-0.

"After dropping the first set 5-7, Tianna and Claire put in a great two set effort to come back and win 6-4, 6-0," Peck said. "The longer the match went on, the stronger Tianna and Claire got. I was really proud of them. They haven't had a chance to play a lot of doubles. But today, they looked like they had been playing together all season."

Wa-Hi travels to Moses Lake Wednesday.

"It's always tough to go on the road and lose two," Peck said. "It makes for a long day. The girls will use this as a learning experience and apply that knowledge when we face Moses Lake on Wednesday."
