Green tip of the week - 04/26/11

Natural lighting is an important tool in attaining sustainability.

Natural lighting is beneficial to health, reduces energy consumption, improves work performance and contributes to pleasing interior design.

Less dependency on artificial lighting can reduce the use of electricity up to 10 percent.

Natural lighting has been shown to significantly improve job performance, help avoid certain vitamin deficiencies, combat build-up of mildew and mold and improve overall quality of life including the health of your houseplants.

Effective ways to introduce natural lighting include traditional and canister skylights, double-paned windows in main living areas and glass blocks.

Your contractor can give you specific suggestions.

Gardening update: This is a good time to plant root crops.

It's our world. If we use resources carefully, we'll all be better off.
