MOSES LAKE - Wa-Hi's boys tennis team posted a 5-2 team win over Moses Lake Wednesday afternoon.
The win improves the Blue Devils to 7-1 overall. They're 3-1 in Big Nine play, and see Eisenhower today and 4A state champion Wenatchee May 7.
"Moses Lake had been identified in the first week of the season as one of our specific targets this year," said Wa-Hi coach Ted Cummings. "Somehow, they had won our last four dual match battles by the score of 4-3 and that tends to leave a sour taste in one's mouth. Today was our turn to shine."
Wa-Hi dropped two matches in singles but swept the rest of the day.
With Wa-Hi ahead 3-2, No. 1 doubles player Cameron Davis ended the match.
"He had decisive 6-3, 6-4 wins over Levi Huddleston and earned the Blue Devils the deciding fourth point and win," Cummings said.
Singles player Jack Crouter followed Davis with another win in No. 4 singles for the fifth and final team point.
The Blue Devils doubles teams swept on the day.
"Our doubles teams stepped up and routed all three doubles teams from Moses Lake, giving up an average of only two games per match," Cummings said of teams Ruben Kuznetsov-Drew Swenson, Josh Kuznetsov-James Tupper-Bridges and John Meliah-Nam Delespierre.
Meliah has a way of powering the team, Cummings said.
"Anytime we can get big John Meliah in the lineup, fireworks are abundant. John, with his powerful net and overhead game, is undefeated this year in No. 2 and No. 3 doubles events with a 6-0 mark."
Delespierre is a French exchange student.
The Blue Devils host Eisenhower today.
