"The Playful Brush: Calligraphic Works by Fujii Yoshiyasu," will be on exhibit at the Asian Studies Art Gallery, Olin Hall East 110, Whitman College, 345 Boyer Ave until May 6. The gallery is open 4-6 p.m. Tuesday through Friday and noon to 4 p.m. Sundays.

Today at 2 p.m., Master Calligrapher Fujii will demonstrate the art. On Sunday at 2 p.m. there will be a tea demonstration at the gallery.

Yoshiyasu has been practicing this art for more than 40 years. In 1996, he established the Meito Calligraphy Association in Seattle to live the dream of his mentor, Akashi Shumpo, one of the great calligraphy masters of the second half of the 20th century. He is the only calligraphy teacher in the United States fully recognized and licensed by the Japanese Ministry of Education. For more information, call 527-5896.
