Eleanor J. Mitchell
September 2, 1919 - April 27, 2011
Our beloved mother and grandmother,
Eleanor Juanita Mitchell of 176 Rancho
Villa, 91, passed into the presence of the
Lord on April 27th, 2011 surrounded
by her family. Eleanor was born September
2nd, 1919 to William and Margaret
Graham in Lodi, California.
After graduating from high school and
Business College she worked as a secretary
at Procter and Gamble in California.
It was during this time she met the love of
her life and her best friend Robert "Bob" Mitchell. They married
on February 21st, 1942 in Yuma, AZ. In 1944, Eleanor
proudly joined the armed forces and was a PFC in the United
States Army. She served until the end of World War II.
Bob and Eleanor moved to Walla Walla, WA with their six
children in 1962. Eleanor, a homemaker, provided a loving,
encouraging and comfortable home for her family. She instilled
values with a Christian base to her children that have carried
even to this day and into the lives of her grandchildren. Anyone
who knew Eleanor knew God blessed her with a gracious heart
and a benevolent spirit. She gave her money, her time and even
shared her talents with others whenever she could. For many
years she taught craft classes at The Odd Fellows and spent time
helping out at the Walla Walla Senior Center. In recent years,
she even crocheted hats, scarves, and afghans for donation to
the Walla Walla Senior Center.
The greatest legacy we leave behind is love and our mother
left a huge legacy. Her family was her life. She cherished each
holiday, each birthday and each special occasion she got to celebrate
with us. She made sure each one of us knew just how
special we were and that we were loved.
Eleanor is survived by six children. Judy (Don) Richter of
Lufkin, TX, Glen (Meredith) Mitchell of Walla Walla, WA, Janet
(Jim) Leifer of St. John, WA and her twin sister Jenice (Ron)
Smith of Walla Walla, WA, Greg (Irma) Mitchell of Modesto,
CA, and Jaci (Dwight) Hoppen of Walla Walla, WA as well as
her 12 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren. She was preceded
in death by her husband "Bob" Mitchell on August 21st,
2006 as well as by both her parents and two older sisters.
At Eleanor's request, there will be no public services. A private
family gathering will take place at a later date. Memorial
contributions may be made to the Christian Aid Center, Blue
Mountain Television, or Trinity Baptist Church.
Psalm 23:6 Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the
days of my life; And I will dwell in the house of the Lord Forever.
