DAYTON - Dayton and Watsburg-Prescott split a softball twinbill, 8-6 each, Friday afternoon.

The second-game loss was W-P's first league loss of the year.

"W-P jumped on us early both games," Dayton assisant coach Desirae Jones said. "We had an extra-inning win in the first game and just ran out of time in that second game. Both games were really competitive. All of the pitchers pitched well, our players did well on defense and there was good hitting."

With the score tied at six in the bottom of the eighth in the first game, Dayton's Shelby Smith tripled, then an out was recorded on a missed bunt opportunity, then Smith stole second and Kayla Turner doubled to bring her home and end the game.

In game two, Dayton's Nicole Lambert hit two solo home runs and Miwa Umeda hammered a long ball for Dayton. Umeda also added a triple in the game. The Bulldogs rallied in the bottom of the seventh with three runs but it wasn't quite enough to pick up the victory. The Bulldogs are now 10-3 and 6-2 in Southeast 2B play. W-P is 9-1 in league.

Dayton hosts Asotin at 3 p.m. Monday, while W-P hosts DeSales at 3 p.m. Tuesday.
