Mac-Hi has good weekend on the track

Mac-Hi's boys are fourth and girls fifth Saturday, while the boys win Friday at Jo-High.


UNION - The Mac-Hi track teams fared well here Saturday at the Pepsi Invitational.

The Pioneer boys place fourth and the girls fifth.

Both the girls and boys relay teams performed the best of all the Pioneer competitors.

In the girls division, the relay teams took first in the 4x400 (4:31.06) and third in the 4x100 (55.52).

The 4x400 team consisted of Kathleen Hopkins, Erica Torres, Alejandra Ibarra and Veronica Garcia.

The 4x100 team was made up of Hopkins, Garcia, Torres and Cheyenne Duncan.

Torres did well individually, placing second in the 100 (13.89) and first in the 200 (28.57).

Another top-three girls finisher was Ibarra, who was second in the javelin (104 feet, 10 inches).

The boys 4x400 relay team - Kaleb Taylor, Alberto Rodriguez, Alex Saldana and Rick Sandoval - placed first (3:37.91).

Taylor won the 800 (2:05.50) and Pancho Saldana place second in the javelin (174-5).

Mac-Hi's boys won and the girls were second at the Jo-High Invite Friday in Joseph.

Several boys finished in the top three in multiple events. Rodriguez finished first in the 100 (12.07) and 200 (25.43). He ran a leg on the 4x400 relay team that finished first (3:44.31) and the 4x100 relay team that took second (47.44).

Tony Ng performed well in both the 110 and 300 hurdles. Ng finished first (18.91) and second (48.65), respectively.

Lucas Simpson finished second in the 3000 (11:25.66) and second in the pole vault (9-0).

Saldana was first in the javelin (158-4), and second in both the shot put (39-1) and long jump (11.50).

Torres led the Pioneers' girls by winning the 100 (14.50) and crossing the finish line second in the 200 (31.23).

Garcia was third in the 200 (31.47).

Hopkins was second (53.28) in the 300 hurdles and took the top spot (1:07.22) in the 400.

Erandeni Trevino took two thirds, finishing the 800 in 3:10.23 and the 1500 in 6:05.09.

The girls 4x400 relay team was first in 4:47.20.

Jessica Dodd pulled out a second in the triple jump at 25-8 to close scoring for the Pioneers.

Enterprise's boys were second in the team standings. Joseph was third, Imbler fourth and Cove fifth.

Imbler won the girls meet. Enterprise finished third and was followed by Cove and Joseph.
