GARFIELD - Pomeroy coaxed 21 walks in a Southeast 1B baseball doubleheader en route to a split with Garfield-Palouse Saturday. The Pirates won game one, 13-9, behind a three-run homer off Justin Ruark and lost game two, 13-4.
In the first game alone, the Pirates walked 14 times and scored 13 runs on four hits.
"Gar-Pal just didn't have the good pitching control today," Pomeroy coach Dave Boyer said. "We played them earlier this year and split the doubleheader when they were throwing strikes.
"We were patient hitters today, too," he said. "We didn't swing at any bad pitches. We didn't have a lot of good base hits but made lots of solid contact."
In the second game, Pomeroy walked seven times and scored four runs on two hits.
Nick Tewalt and Matt FitzGerald both had two hits apiece in the twinbill.
Pomeroy had seven errors on defense and gave away too many extra outs to Gar-Pal in game two.
"We didn't play as well in the second game," Boyer said. "But we are a young team and we still worked hard at it. I'm not disappointed in our team but I wish we would have won both.
"Give Gar-Pal credit, they are a good hitting team and it showed."
Gar-Pal pounded out 20 hits in the two games.
Pomeroy is now 3-10 overall and 1-5 in SE1B play.
