DAYTON - Waitsburg-Prescott topped Dayton in a Southeast 2B baseball doubleheader sweep Saturday, improving to 10-6 overall and 5-5 in Southeast 2B play.

W-P won 14-0 and 8-7, knocking out 14 hits in the first-game win.

Zach Bartlow pitched the complete-game, five-inning shutout for W-P. He walked one batter.

"We started out slow (in game one) but then we really started swinging it," said W-P coach Dustin Snidegar "The lower half of the lineup really started hitting the ball, we made some adjustments to try get the bottom half activated and it showed up."

The lower half of W-P's card was 7-for-13 at bat.

"My team was not mentally prepared to play the first game, for sure," said Dayton coach Sal Benavides. "We were late and didn't come with a positive attitude and the score showed it."

W-P trailed 5-4 early in game two, but Dalton Estes homered to tie it up at five in the fifth inning.

The tie continued through the bottom of the seventh inning, when Matt Hamilton tripled and Joe Purdin had an RBI groundout for the lead and win.

"We had the chance to win with our good rally but came up short," Benavides said.

Hamilton finished with four hits in the twinbill, while T.J. Hofer had four hits in game one and six base knocks on the day.

"We had to battle them in the second game. It was a back and forth affair," Snidegar said. "We ended up winning and it was a real good win."

W-P hosts DeSales in Prescott at 3 p.m. Tuesday.
