WESTON -- Someone appears to have been following a yellow brick road in the city.
Weston police received a report at 7:48 a.m. on Monday that someone broke into Weston Middle School, 205 E. Wallace St., and vandalized the building. As well, yellow spray paint was taken from the school's maintenence shop, according to the Sgt. Josh Henningsen of the Weston Police Department.
Just before that discovery and immediately after, a number of calls came in reporting yellow paint on vehicles.
From Broad to Water to Mill to Wallace streets, the culprit or culprits decorated vehicles and signs with the stolen paint. "They took a can of paint and made the rounds," commented Mayor Duane Thul. Total damage count came to 19 cars and seven traffic signs being sprayed in yellow, Henningsen said.
An evidence technician was brought in and forensic evidence was found in the school, he added. "We're following leads."
