James Henry Averill passed away at his home Aug. 1, 2011. He was born on Sept. 8, 1943, to Pern Averill and Britta Burch Averill. He was born in Salem and raised in Salem and Astoria. After graduation from high school he enlisted in the Army and served in Germany.
He moved to Walla Walla in 1971, and he met and married Dorothy Locati. They wed June 24, 1972, at St. Francis Catholic Church, and had two children. He was a business agent for Teamsters Local 556, and retired in 1996.
He is survived by wife, Dorothy Averill, of Walla Walla; daughter, Christina, and son-in-law Fabian Spencer of Phoenix, Ariz.; son, Chad, and daughter-in-law Lisa Averill of Beaverton, Ore.; brothers-in-law, Robert and Claudine Locati of Walla Walla, Rick and Jeannie Locati of Walla Walla; grandchildren, Vanessa Averill Edwards, Olivia Spencer,
DJ Spencer and Raven Spencer, all of Phoenix and Sydney Averill, Kennedy Averill and Delaney Averill, all of Beaverton.
A funeral Mass will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday, Aug. 4, at St. Francis Catholic Church. A reception will follow at St. Francis Parish Center.
