Reapers rugby club finishes third at Tacoma tournament

TACOMA - The Walla Walla Reapers Rugby Club traveled to Tacoma July 23-24 for a summer 7's tournament.

Rugby, which typically is played by 15 players per team, has seven players aside during the summer season of social rugby.

The Reapers won their first game, 21-0, over Portland RFC.

The second game saw Walla Walla fall to Northwest Trees RFC, 19-10.

In the third pool game, the Reapers rebounded to beat Eastern Washington University, 19-12.

With a record of 2-1 in pool play, Walla Walla advanced to the semifinals of the Plate Championship.

The Reapers played Central Washington University, one of the top collegiate 7's teams in the nation, to a 5-5 draw at the half. However, two late tries by CWU ended the day for the Reapers.

The overall record of 2-2 was good for a third-place finish in the Reapers' bracket.

If interested in playing with the Reapers, contact coach Eric McAlvey at 876-6100.
