Charles 'Chuck” Maiden


Charles "Chuck" Maiden, 84, passed away on July 29, 2011, at his home in
Touchet, WA, where he was surrounded with the love of his family. Chuck was
born September 19, 1926, to Frank and Bonnie Maiden. He was born and raised
in Valley Chapel where he attended the country school. He was baptized at an
early age and was a member of the White Temple Baptist Church. Chuck was
preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Stanley.

Chuck attended Walla Walla High School where he was active in baseball
and ROTC. Post graduation he joined the Army Air Corps where he
qualified for pilot training. Because the war ended, the program was
discontinued and he was reassigned. Upon discharge, Chuck attended
Washington State University where he majored in agriculture and was
a member of the Phi Kappa Tau Fraternity.

September 11, 1949, Chuck and Bobbie (Strohmaier) married. They
have lived and farmed in the Touchet area for 61 years.
He was a long time member of the Washington Wheat Growers
Association, Walla Walla County Cattlemens' Association, nine year
Fair Board member and past board president, and he continued to be
involved with the Frontier Days Foundation. He loved rodeo and was
especially proud of his P.R.C.A. gold card. He enjoyed his memberships
at the Walla Walla Country Club, Elks Club, and Blue Mountain Masonic
Lodge. Chuck served as a three term Walla Walla County Commissioner.

Chuck is survived by his wife, Bobbie, sons Mike (Vicky) and Tom
(Connie), daughters Pam (Jim Hannah) and Linda Sue Schmitt.
Grandchildren Jim Maiden, Nick Hannah, Jay Maiden (Dan)
Mayhew, Haley Maiden, Emily Hannah, Grant Maiden, Alan Schmitt,
Christopher Schmitt and Laura Schmitt. Also his great grandchildren
Harley Maiden, Gracie Gray, Olive Mayhew, Mayden Killpack, Eloise
Maiden and Bloom Mayhew.

A viewing is scheduled at Herring Groseclose Funeral Home on
Friday, August 5th, from 11:00 AM until 5:00 PM, and Saturday, August
6th, from 10:00 AM until 1:30 PM. All are invited to a grave side service
which will be at 3:00 PM on Saturday, August 6th, at Blue Mountain
Memorial Gardens. Following the graveside service, the family invites
you to join them at the Walla Walla Fairgrounds Pavilion Rotunda at
5:00 PM for a BBQ celebration of Chuck's life. Chuck would insist on
casual attire.
