Pomeroy wastewater plant wins state recognition

POMEROY - The efforts of Pomeroy wastewater treatment plant operator Glenn Davis, city superintendent Ken Landkammer and their staff will be recognized Tuesday during the Pomeroy City Council meeting.

The state Department of Ecology's "Outstanding Wastewater Treatment Plant award will be presented to Mayor Alan Gould, recognizing the city for operating its treatment plant in a way that protects the water quality of Pataha Creek and the Snake River.

This is the second time the treatment plant has received the prestigious award. The city won the award in 1999, according to a press release from the DOE.

The treatment plant processes up to 340,000 gallons of wastewater per day.

"These are the people who are on the front lines of protecting water quality every day," said Grant Pfeifer, Ecology's eastern regional director.

"The people who run these plants face challenges each day from equipment breakdowns to unexpected storms that flood the system. To handle those challenges with flying colors make these people real heroes," Pfeifer said.
