Reser Road project to begin Wednesday

WALLA WALLA - The start of a major road project Wednesday will close two roads bordering Walla Walla High School and Prospect Point Elementary School

Fern Avenue between Carmella Street and Reser Road will be closed through the end of August. Only emergency service vehicles will have access.

Reser Road between Fern Avenue and its intersection with Howard Street-Cottonwood Road will be closed through the end of November. Only emergency service vehicles will have access during construction. The bridge over Yellowhawk Creek will be closed starting Monday through the end of September. During this time there will be no through traffic. Access will need to come from either east or west of the bridge location.

The closures are due to the Reser Road project, which will rebuild both roadways and replace the bridge over Yellowhawk Creek. Work will include new sidewalks, curb and gutter work, designated bike lanes and stormwater treatment swales to eliminate direct flows into Yellowhawk Creek.

In addition to the road work, the city of Walla Walla will also construct a new water main from Carmella Street to Costello Place.

According to the Walla Walla County Public Works Department, the entire project is scheduled to be completed by October of next year, which a winter shutdown anticipated between November and next summer.

County commissioners awarded the construction contract to Culbert Construction Inc. of Pasco last week. The firm was the lowest of three bidders on the job with an offer of $1.8 million.
