William Kirk "Bill" Barnett, age 74 years, resident of Waitsburg, died July 31, 2011, at the University of Washington Medical Center. Family graveside services will be in the family plot in the Mountain View Cemetery with memorial services at 11 a.m. on Friday, Aug. 12, at the Walla Walla Elks Lodge with Pastor Darrell Dawes officiating. Bill was born Sept. 12, 1936, in Portland. His parents were Lindon and Irene Reynolds Barnett. He was a graduate of Wa-Hi with the class of 1955, and then served in the Marine Corps. He was employed on area ranches and the Washington State Penitentiary, retiring in 2000. He enjoyed training border collies and traveled to sheep dog trials throughout the western states. He and his dogs won many championships at these competitions. He also enjoyed fishing.
He is survived by: a son, Kirk Barnett of Pendleton; six daughters; Wendi Andrews of Shoreline, Wash., Kim Turner of Pocatello, Idaho, Lynn Cunnington of Spokane, Dawn Jennings of Athena, Stacey Pierce of Edmonds, Wash., and Michelle Borquin of Walla Walla; a sister, Virginia Dunbar of Vancouver, Wash., and longtime companion, Rosemary Shelly of Waitsburg. He was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Donald Barnett.
