MILTON-FREEWATER -- "Gently used items" are being sought for donation to a rummage sale to raise money to aid families of local Oregon Army National Guard members.

Preferred items are furniture, kitchenware, blankets, toys and other items, but not clothing, said Laurie Harvey, one of the organizers. People may call 509-386-7007 to set up a time when they can bring any items to the armory in Milton-Freewater.

Money from the sale will be used to help families with members in the 1186th Military Police Company, which is scheduled to deploy to Afghanistan this fall. Milton-Freewater is home to about 75 members of the unit. The fund will aid families with emergencies and expenses during the unit's deployment, Harvey said.

The sale will be Aug. 20-21 at the armory, Harvey said.
