Walla Walla Sweets to face Corvallis Knights

The Knights shut out Bend, 3-0, Sunday to advance to the WCL championship series.


WALLA WALLA - The Walla Walla Sweets host the Corvallis Knights Tuesday at Borleske Stadium to open the West Coast League championship series.

Corvallis shut out the Bend Elks, 3-0, Sunday night in the decisive game of the WCL West Division playoff series. Bend won the series opener, 3-1, on Friday before Corvallis responded with a 7-5 victory Saturday night to tie the series.

The Sweets swept the Wenatchee AppleSox in their East Division series, winning 9-4 Friday and rallying to a 5-4 victory Saturday.

Wenatchee was the two-time defending WCL champion.

Corvallis is returning to the WCL championship series for the fourth time, having played for the title in 2007, 2008 and 2009.

The Knights won the championship in 2008.

The Sweets-Knights series opens at 7:05 p.m. Tuesday at Borleske, and heads to Goss Stadium in Corvallis for 6:40 p.m. starts Thursday and Friday, if necessary.
