April 11, 1949 - Aug. 4, 2011
Linda passed away peacefully, with her family at her side, on Thursday, Aug. 4, 2011, after a short battle with cancer.
Linda was born on April 11, 1949, In Tillamook, Ore., the fourth of five children to Elwood and Georgia Buffum. All the nurses raved about her at the time of her birth as she looked like an angel with blonde
hair and a creamy complexion with pink cheeks. The family moved quite a bit during her younger years as her father was in the timber industry. She graduated from Cloverdale High School, Cloverdale, Calif., in1967. Linda then moved to Los Angeles, where she continued her schooling at the Collins Fashion Institute. She graduated in 1968.
Linda met James Plumbley In Oceanside, Calif., in 1969, and they were married on Oct. 24, 1970, in Encinitas, Calif. They welcomed a daughter, Merry Lynn, on March 18, 1975. Linda loved being a mom and her daughter was the "cream of the crop." She worked for two auto dealerships, in the travel industry and for a major Insurance carrier before she was forced into disability retirement due to her struggles with rheumatoid arthritis. Jim and Linda divorced in 2007, and she moved to Walla Walla, where she resided in the Golden West Estates. Linda worked part-time at the Center at the Park, a job she thoroughly enjoyed. In April of this year she fulfilled a dream by traveling to
Ireland for the wedding of her daughter to Alan Mullen. Linda traveled around the Emerald Isle by herself for three weeks enjoying every day of it.
Linda was an accomplished seamtress, a master at carving gourds, she crocheted potholders for the senior store and lived each day to the fullest.
She leaves behind her soulmate, Jim Plumbley of Snohomish, Wash.; her daughter, Merry Lynn Mullen (Alan) of Redmond, Wash.; her grandchildren, Andrew and Megan Roderick and the new one to be born in March of 2012. She has two brother, Leon Buffum of Clearlake Oakes, Calif., and Tom Buffum of Walla Walla; her broken-hearted sister, Marilyn Reed (Terry) of Walla Walla. Her many friends, acquaintances, her extended family, many cousins, nieces and nephews. She was proceeded in death by her father in 1991, her mother in 2010, and her oldest sister, Odie, in 2010. Linda will be deeply missed.
A celebration of life will be held on Friday, Aug. 19, 2011, at 2 p.m. at the Golden West Estates clubhouse. All are welcome to attend and share a memory of her.
