Gary was born in Walla Walla to Andy and Carrie (Haddix) Jensen and lived his entire life in Weston. He graduated from Weston High School with the class of 1955 and married his high school sweetheart Marilyn Syfford on Nov 9, 1958, in Weston. He started working for Lamb Weston Inc., where he worked for 43 years until his retirement in 1999.
Gary had many interests; he was an avid runner and bicyclist and enjoyed carpentry. He coached Little League and served as a volunteer fireman as well as an all-around handyman and "Mr. Fix-it" for the
community. He was especially fond of the Eagle Cap Wilderness area and was proud to say he had visited every lake. He introduced family and many of his friends to this area and spent many summers backpacking and exploring what he called God's Country.
He was a lifelong active member of the Weston Community Church. His life centered on his family, his church, his community and doing for others. In 2011 he was named Weston's Outstanding Citizen of the Year.
Gary is survived by his companion, Linda Henckel of Kennewick; a son, David Jensen of Troutdale, Ore.; daughter and son-in-law, Mike and Pam Gembala of Dayton; grandsons, Cody Hayes of Vancouver, Wash.,
Derrick Jensen of Portland, Ore., and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Marilyn of 47 years, and his grandson, Kyle Hayes.
