John Samuel Destito
June 21, 1954 - August 13, 2011

John S. Destito, age 57, passed away Saturday August 13, 2011 unexpectedly while on a business trip to Nevada.

John was born June 21, 1954 in Walla Walla to John P. and Carmela Destito and attended Davis Elementary School, Sager Middle School and graduated from DeSales High School in 1972. He attended Walla Walla Community College
and Whitman College before embarking on a career in the business community of more than 30 years. Always one with an entrepreneurial spirit, John's business ventures ranged from opening and operating a gun shop in Walla Walla to his final passion of premium bottled water. At the time of his death, John was the President and CEO of the Glacier Water Company carrying such high end products as Serac, Tahoma, and Akali water; the Auburn based company is a leader in the field of aquaceuticals. In between, John was involved in expanding the field of bronze sculpturing in the Pacific Northwest as well as delving Into development of the cancer fighting drug, Taxol.

Although his business projects were all time consuming with extensive
travel throughout the world, John never forgot his family, took pride of his Italian cultural roots, and always considered Walla Walla his home. He will always be remembered for his big heart and smile, deep baritone laugh, and large appetite for all things including
food. He will be missed, but truly never forgotten.

John is survived by his son, John E. Destito, his mother and stepfather, Carmela "Carmy'' and Emilio J. Buttice. He leaves behind his three brothers, David (Jean), Daniel (Christina), and Mark Destito. He also is survived by Delbert Blaine whose is a life-long friend of the Destito family and considered a brother, John's Uncles and Aunts, Sam and Theresa Laurella, Michael and Marilu Perfetto, and Lucy Valdez. John's passion included watching his nieces and nephews grow. They are Justin and his Wife Brenna, Jeremy, Michael, Morgan, Matthew, Taylor, Brandon, Cameron Destito and Logan Vershave. He was preceded in death by his father, John P. Destito of Walla Walla in 1983, He was also preceded by his grandparents, John "Jay" and Idean Destito and Sam and Anna Perfetto and his Aunt, Elizabeth J. Ponti.

There will be a viewing on Monday, August 22, 2011 at the Herring Funeral Home, from 4 to 8 pm. Funeral Mass will be Tuesday, August 23, 2011, 10 am at St. Francis Catholic Church. Interment to follow Mountain View Cemetery. Memorial contributions in John's name may be given to St. Francis Catholic Church, the Italian Heritage Association or to the charity of the donor's choice through the Herring Funeral Home on 315 W. Alder.
