Ed Bishop takes lead in Pomeroy fire commission race; Derek Shawley holds slim lead for second

POMEROY - Pomeroy Fire District 2 incumbent Ed Bishop picked up 16 votes to take the lead for fire commissioner position 3 when votes were tabulated Friday.

A total of 610 votes were counted, with 31 additional ballots counted since the last count Tuesday evening. A final vote count will be made Aug. 31 at 4 p.m.

Derek J. Shawley came through Friday's count with 205 votes, and increase of seven over Tuesday's count, while Justin Warren picked up eight votes for a total of 197.

Unless the count changes Aug. 31, Bishop and Shawley will face off in the November general election.

The additional votes boosted Garfield County's voter turnout to nearly 41 percent.
