HERMISTON -- One man was arrested following a fatal crash early Sunday on Highway 730 west of Wallula junction.
According to the Oregon State Police, the single-vehicle crash was reported at 7:04 a.m. about seven miles west of the state line.
Emergency workers found an overturned car about 30 yards off the highway. A passenger in the vehicle, Jose E. Ramirez Chavarria, 23, was pronounced dead at the scene. A second passenger, Martin Ramirez, 28, was transported by air ambulance to Legacy Emanuel Medical Center in Portland with serious injuries.
The driver of the car, Acosta Gonzalo, 32, suffered minor injuries. He was treated at Good Shepherd Medical Center in Herminston and after being released was arrested for investigation of first-degree manslaughter, criminally negligent homicide, second-degree assault, driving under the influence of intoxicants and reckless driving.
All three men are residents of Entiat, Wash., police said.
Police said the crash apparently happened when Gonzalo was negotiating a curve to the left in the road and traveled onto the right shoulder. He overcorrected, causing the car to roll numerous times before it came to rest on its top.
