Virginia Tarwater Thomas
March 21,1917 - August I5, 20l1

Virginia Tarwater Thomas, a life long resident of Walla Walla, passed away August I5, 20l1. Virginia was born March 21,1917, to Leslie A. and Katherine (Lonucker) Tarwater. She graduated from Wa-Hi in 1936, and married Ralph "Zeke" Thomas that same year. They spent 30 years raising their children; fanning near Pepper's Bridge and building their place on Saddle Mountain. They weredivorced in 1965.

Virginia returned to school in 1970, and received an AA degree from Walla Walla Community College. She served as Library Clerk at Pioneer Jr. High School from 1972-1992, retiring at the age of 75. Virginia's life was dedicated to the caring support of her children and grandchildren, in addition
to the young people of her community. Supporting local
youth activities through 4-H (Leader 1949-69) P.T.A at Davis Elementary; FFA at Wa-Hi; Walla Walla Wagonettes; and the years at Pi-Hi.
She was a founding member of the Blue Mtn. Riders; a past President of the Walla Walla County Cowbelles (Cattlemen's
Association); Rebekah Aux. of Odd Fellows Lodge and a member of Pioneer Methodist Church.
Virginia was an avid outdoors woman, enjoying hunting, fishing, cooking and gardening. She left behind the prettiest flower gardens on E. Pine St. Some of her best memories were of our pack trips into the Wallowa high lakes. She will be fondly remembered by all for her homemade bread, pies and root beer floats.

Surviving are her children, Nancy Lee-Moses (Andy) Virgene Cox (Lewis) Orin Thomas, all of Walla Walla and Monte Thomas (Dawn) of M-F, Oregon. Her grandchildren: Keith Gates (Isabel); Tony Gates; Khritina Grant (Khaleel) of the Puget Sound Area; Matt Gates of Walla Walla; Terrill
Thomas (Heidi); Scott Sine1air of M-F, Or.; Daniel Sinclair(Carlota) of Denver, Co. and Mitchell Thomas (Katie)
of Baker City, Or. and 9 great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents and her brother and sister-in-law Curtis and Helen Tarwater.

A graveside service is planned on August 27th at Mtn. View Cemetery at 11 a.m. followed by a celebration of life at the home of daughter Virgene, 2136 Depping Road, WW. Memorial contributions may be made to the Curtis Tarwater Memorial Scholarship fund at WWCC or to the Christian Aid Center, through Herring Groseclose Funeral Home, 315 W Alder St. Walla Walla, WA 99362.
