WALLA WALLA -- A new trial date has been set for a local gang member accused of arming himself with a handgun and taking beer from the Zip Zone Conoco in February.

Corey J. Reece, 25, of 9231/2 W. Chestnut St., had been scheduled for trial in Superior Court this Tuesday. But a new date of Oct. 24 has been set.

Reece has pleaded innocent to charges of first-degree robbery and second-degree unlawful possession of a firearm. He is accused of robbing the Zip Zone, 110 N. Ninth Ave., about 1 a.m. on Feb. 18.

Officials say he was armed with a gun as he took two 12-packs of beer from the store and threatened the clerk.

He allegedly left in a gold-colored sedan -- driven by someone else -- that headed west on Alder Street. A similar car later was located by a sheriff's deputy a few blocks away, officials said. Several known gang members fled, but left behind open containers of the same brand of beer stolen during the robbery.

Police developed evidence to arrest Reece on March 4 after viewing surveillance videos and interviewing several people, officials said. He was released on bail early last month.

A convicted felon, Reece has been arrested in the past for alleged drug offenses, weapons violations and assaults.
