LaVonne Rosella Filla, age 72 years, died Aug. 24, 2011, at her home in Dayton. Funeral services will be at 1 p.m., Monday, Aug. 29, 2011, at the Hubbard-Rogg Chapel with Pastor Greg Brownell officiating. Viewing for family and friends will be 7 p.m., Sunday. LaVonne was born Aug. 23, 1939, in New London, Minn. Her parents were Harold and LaVern Larson Gustafson Sakariason. She graduated from New London High School with the class of 1957. In February 1960, she married Ronald Filla in a ceremony held in New London. They lived in Paynesville, Minn., East Wenatchee before coming to Dayton in 1991. Mr. Filla died Feb. 14, 2001.
She grew up near Old Mill Pond which was the center of winter and summer activities; ice skating, swimming, fishing, and water skiing. She loved Crappie and Blue Gill fry's. She also enjoyed rock hounding and making jewelry from cut stones, raising a garden and canning, and was an avid reader.
She is survived by three sons and two daughters-in-law, Johan Filla of Dayton, James and Gladys Filla of Yakima, and Jeffery and Linda Filla of Kennewick; one daughter and two sons-in-law; Yvonne and Patrick Newman of Spokane, and Johnny Joe Smith of Dayton; one sister, Loretta Ruter of New London, Minn.; 13 grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; daughter, Yvette Smith; brother, Francis "Butch" Gustafson; and sister, Charlotte Lund.
