WESTON - Firefighters had a 300-acre fire about seven miles southeast of here contained today, according to Oregon State Forestry Unit Forester Dennis Perelli.
Cause of the fire is under investigation, Perelli said. The fire started Saturday evening along the Umatilla River and burned uphill.
The fire is burning in grass, brush and timber.
A storm that delivered about a quarter-inch of rain Sunday evening helped the firefighting effort, Perelli said.
Firefighters from the Snake River Correctional Institute in Ontario, Oregon and private contractors had encircled the fire with fire lines today, according to Perelli.
The fire is burning on lands administered by the Bureau of Indian Affairs and on private land.
