WALLA WALLA -- A local man pleaded innocent Monday afternoon in Walla Walla County Superior Court to two rape charges.

Joshua A. Rutherford, 19, is set for trial Oct. 25 and 26 on a charge of second-degree rape for allegedly having sexual intercourse with a 17-year-old girl against her will in the summer of 2009.

He also faces a charge of third-degree rape of a child, accusing him of having sex last summer with a girl who was 14 years old. Trial on that case has been set for Oct. 13 and 14.

Both of the alleged crimes -- which hadn't been reported to police until last spring -- took place at a residence in the area of the Walla Walla County Fairgrounds, according to police.

Rutherford, of 1909 Garrison St., was acquainted with both of the girls, officials said.

The charges were filed Aug. 2 and he was booked into the County Jail Aug. 16.

Bail on each case was set at $50,000.
