WALLA WALLA -- A man suspected of trying to hold up The Medicine Shoppe downtown last week has been formally charged in Superior Court.
Benjamin Garcia Jr., 32, of 719 N. Eighth Ave., is accused of second-degree attempted robbery. The charge was filed Friday.
Police said Garcia, wearing a gray sweatshirt and putting on a black mask, entered the pharmacy at 25 S. Colville St. about 12:30 p.m. Thursday.
He then said in a forceful voice to give him all the methadone and Xanax they had, according to a police report filed in court.
None was handed over and Garcia left after an employee pushed the panic button, the report says. He was followed toward the back parking lot of Macy's by a witness across the street who allegedly saw him get into a Honda Accord and head west on Alder Street.
The witness provided the license plate number to emergency dispatchers and police located Garcia at his residence.
He is being held in the County Jail in lieu of $30,000 bail.
