April 2, 1955 - Nov. 11, 2011
Laurel Suzanne Silvestri was born in Seattle on April 2, 1955, to Nan and Scott Hillyard. She passed on early in the morning of Nov. 11, 2011, at her home in Lewiston at the age of 56.
Laurie grew up in Walla Walla, attended Walla Walla High School and graduated in 1973. She excelled in all of the arts, particularly drama, English, poetry and writing. After high school she moved to Lewiston to attend LCSC, where she met and married James Silvestri of Clarkston, the father of her children. She was only one semester away from a four-year degree in English when the decision was made to quit college and stay home to be a mother to her children.
Laurie worked for the Clarkston school district for four years as an assistant, helping wherever she was needed, and for the past 11 years has been a transportation assistant, helping handicapped children get on and off the school bus.
A rare individual, Laurie gave more than she took, and made friends wherever she went. Her kind heart and generosity will be missed by all those who knew her.
Last July, after a remarkable sequence of events, Laurie was reunited with John Hanek, who had been her high school sweetheart for four years, and they were married on Oct. 31. Laurie was in the process of moving to John's home in Pendleton to retire and live there with him.
She is survived by two sons, Anthony Silvestri of Clarkston and Christopher Silvestri of Olympia; a daughter, Jessica Treiber of Stafford, Va.; seven grandchildren and her husband, John Hanek of Pendleton.
A Celebration Of Life gathering is planned for her, to be held soon. Please check future obituaries for date, place and time. xxxx
