New trial date set for man in rape of acquaintance

WALLA WALLA -- A man accused of raping a female acquaintance at a local residence last summer now is scheduled for trial April 23 in Walla Walla County Superior Court.

Donald R. Lackey Jr., 44, had been set for trial Nov. 29 on the charge of second-degree rape, but the proceedings have been delayed.

Lackey is accused of pulling the back of the woman's hair, dragging her into a bedroom, pushing her face down onto the bed and raping her about 6 p.m. Aug. 24.

She later was taken to Walla Walla General Hospital, where medical personnel saw evidence of sexual assault, according to a police report filed in court.

Lackey was located downtown that evening and arrested.

In an interview with police, he reportedly claimed he and the woman engaged in consensual sex.

Lackey was ordered released from the County Jail on Tuesday to house arrest awaiting trial.
