DAYTON -- Ski Bluewood will open Saturday with about 40 percent of the runs available.
Snow depths at 5 a.m. today were 26 inches at the summit and 20 inches at the base, according to the ski area's web site, www.bluewood.com.
The resort opened on Dec. 3 in 2010 as well, with a base of 38 inches, and 44 inches of snow at the top.
Bluewood will operate only on weekends until further notice.
The 7-day weather forecast for the area calls for a slight chance of snow showers beginning Tuesday night.
This is the second year for new owners Kelly and Mike Stephenson, purchased the operation from long-time owners Stan and Nancy Goodell in mid-October last year.
General manager Travis Stephenson said skiers can look forward to something new this year, once snow coverage increases.
Skiers will be able to ride a snow cat to the Vintners Ridge area that was previously only accessible by hiking.
The ski area employers about 120 people, many selected at a job fair this fall that drew 150 hopeful applicants.
