WALLA WALLA - Wa-Hi placed 11 players in the scoring column Friday night during a girls high school basketball matchup with Pasco in the Blue Devil gym.

The Blue Devils led 12-0 after one quarter and 18-0 by the 6:35 mark of period two in a 57-17 rout of the Bulldogs.

Back-to-back layins by 6-foot-2 junior post Torri Crawford gave the Blue Devils a 4-0 edge within the first 90 seconds of the opening frame.

A left-wing 3-pointer off the shooting hand of Andrea Hamada with 3:37 on the clock brought the score to 7-0. A Maddy Sirmon free throw, a low-block basket by Kate Ferenz, and two charity tosses by Libbie Jimenez in the final 3:07 of the stanza ended Wa-Hi's scoring in the initial eight minutes.

Pasco missed all seven of its first-quarter attempts from the field and turned the ball over eight times.

"One of our goals this year is to keep the opposing team under 10 points per quarter," Wa-Hi coach Jill Meliah said. "It's something we were stressing all week in practice."

Maddie Jacobson ended a 6-0 Blue Devil run to start the second quarter with a left-angle trey.

Pasco got on the board with 6:15 left on a Jonna Schmaljohn jumper from the free throw line.

Wa-Hi took its biggest lead of the half - 20 points - with 3:38 remaining before intermission when Sirmon drained a jumper just inside the left portion of the 3-point arc that made it 23-3.

The Blue Devils, despite several missed shots in the interior and going just 6-for-29 from the field in the first two quarters, led 23-5 at halftime.

"We've got to figure that out," Meliah said. "We have to get stronger in the paint offensively."

Wa-Hi's lead widened in the third quarter. MiKayla Ferenz started (in the low post) and Kiana Molitor ended (with a steal and layin) a 13-0 run that unfolded over a four-minute-and-seven-second stretch that resulted in a 36-7 Blue Devil lead with 3:29 remaining.

The spread swelled to 32 points, 41-9, following an Allie Greene putback with one minute to go in the third.

Wa-Hi settled for a 28-point margin, 41-13, after three.

The Blue Devils' Jordan Heiser had one bucket in the contest, a low-post effort with 40 seconds left in the fourth quarter, that provided the final tallies of the game.

Wa-Hi shot 45 percent from the field (14-of-31) in the second half.

Jacobson, Crawford, Sirmon and Jaiden Hodnefield led Wa-Hi's balanced attack with eight points apiece.

"We got better," Meliah said of her team's offensive efficiency in half two. "With this team, that is what I'm looking for day in and day out.

"Any night, any girl can be our leading scorer," Meliah said. "It was nice to see our young kids get into the scoring column."

Defensively, the Blue Devils limited Pasco to just five field goals on 30 shots, forced 33 turnovers, and grabbed 44 rebounds compared with 38 for the Bulldogs.
