Beulah Riddle, 76, died Dec. 2, 2011, from a battle with ALS (Lou Gehrig's disease) with her family by her side in Meridian, Idaho.

She was born the eldest of seven children Sept. 15, 1935, in Freewater, to William Carlton and Ruth (Olmstead) Mason. Her father was a water master for District 5 at the east end of Umatilla County for 45 years. Her mother was a nurse and caregiver until her death when Beulah was only 8. Beulah lived in the Milton-Freewater area all of her life and had a fruit orchard with her husband, Marvin Davis, where she raised five children. She graduated from McLoughlin Union High School in 1954. She attended Walla Walla Community College earning her registered nursing license in 1978. After graduation, she served as a nurse for 30 years.

She was an active member of the Ingle Chapel Church, and had previously belonged to local Baptist and Nazarene churches. Her interests included family, traveling, gardening, cooking, collecting cook books, family genealogy, and various organizations. She devoted much of her time and energy to the organizations of Royal Neighbors, Rebekahs, Frontier Antique Collectors of Pendleton, Emblem Club, VFW Auxiliary, Senior Club, Golden Agers Bingo, Bunco and cooked many dinners for the Rotary.

Beulah is survived by her five children and their spouses, Keith Davis of Deer Park, Wash., Joey and Emma Davis of College Place, Marvie Pfaff of College Place, Dawn and Ken Jepson of Walla Walla, and Julia Olson of Meridian; sister, Audrey Edes, of Sunnyside, Wash.; brother, Norman Mason, of Milton-Freewater; 10 grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews, friends and step-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, Carl and Ruth Mason; brothers, Richard, Jimmy and William Grant Mason; sister, Violet Mason; husbands, Sonny Hopkins and Marvin Davis.

Viewing and visitation will be held Friday, Dec. 9, from 10 a.m. until 8 p.m. at the Herring Groseclose Funeral Home, 315 W. Alder St., Walla Walla. The funeral service will be held on Saturday, Dec. 10, at 10 a.m. at the Herring Groseclose Funeral Home with interment following at the Milton-Freewater Cemetery. A dinner will be served for family and friends in the Milton-Freewater Elks Lodge at 12:30 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made to Walla Walla Hospice or XL Meridian Hospice through the funeral home.
