Bulldogs beat up Panthers

DAYTON - The River View Panthers boys basketball team gave it their all, but they just couldn't keep up with the Dayton Bulldogs, losing 49-33 Tuesday night.

Dayton's big men Joey Schlachter and Kroft Sunderland played well in the paint, scoring four and six points, respectively.

Garett Turner led the Bulldogs with 15 points, with Hayden Fullerton putting up 12 points, including three 3-pointers.

Being only the Bulldogs second game, there is "still room for improvement", said coach Roy Ramirez.

"Our goal was to hold them under 40 points," he said.

Sunderland dominated the "below the basket" position by pulling in nine rebounds.

During the first quarter, the Bulldogs stepped up their defense and ran the shot clock down to have the whistle blow to get the ball back.

With 1:21 left on the clock, Turner stole the ball and took it to the hoop, where he lightly brushed his fingers against the rim to score the final points for Dayton as the Bulldogs took a 20-point lead.

The Panthers scored two more baskets and the game ended amidst screams from the Dayton student section.

Dayton next host Pomeroy on Tuesday.
