WALLA WALLA -- A 2-year old investigation into the Walla Walla County Sheriff's Office is continuing, according to the FBI.
The investigation, which began in October 2009, was initiated when then-Sheriff Mike Humphreys requested the Washington State Patrol look into possible financial improprieties at his office. Officials have said the probe focused on an individual, but information requests have been denied on the grounds the matter is still under investigation.
Along with the WSP and the state Auditor's Office, the FBI's Spokane Field Office also became involved earlier this year. WSP and the Auditor's Office have since deferred comment to the FBI.
Frank Harrill, FBI supervising senior agent in Spokane, said Tuesday he was, "not able to release any additional details on this active investigation at the moment. Thanks for checking."
