July 10, 1941 - Nov. 27, 2010
James Don Moss was born on July 10, 1941, in Salt Lake City, Utah, the oldest son of Don Bybee Moss and Alice Mulliner Moss. Jim was raised in Nyssa, Ore. with two sisters, Ilene Tyler of Walla Walla and Shan Taggert of Cody, Wyo.; and one brother, Steve Moss of Walla Walla. Growing up he enjoyed golfing with his dad, working in the family Firestone store and building model airplanes. He met and married Nan Moss (born Smit) in his hometown and then graduated from Oregon State University in aeronautical engineering. He followed his passion for engineering airplanes to Bellevue, Wash. where he worked and lived for many years.
He was raised in a small town but traveled the world marketing and selling Boeing's 737. It was hard to think of a country he hadn't visited. Jim was a wonderful storyteller. He lived in London for a number of years and developed an appreciation for darts, pub fruit machines and developed a system for winning roulette.
After leaving London he returned to the states and eventually settled in Milton-Freewater, Ore., a community he enjoyed very much. He passed away on Nov. 27, 2010 at Walla Walla General Hospital. He was very grateful for the fulfilling life during his 69 years with us. Munselle-Rhodes Funeral Home, 902 S. Main, Milton-Freewater was in charge of the arrangements.
Jim is survived by his son and grandson, Ken and Ethan Moss, of Spokane, Wash., and his daughter and granddaughter, Sara Moss and Anika Moss Hutnak, of Santa Cruz, Calif.
