LA GRANDE - Ryan Bullock earned an individual championship to lead Mac-Hi to a fourth place finish here in Friday-Saturday wrestling action at the Muilenburg Tournament.
20 teams from all classifications wrestled, with class 6A Barlow from Portland winning the team title. Oregon City finished second, La Grande third and the Pioneers came home fourth.
Bullock, wrestling at 152 pounds, was perfect at 5-0 in his run to the 152 title. He won all five matches by pin - and none of the matches reached the second round.
"Ryan is 8-0 (on the year) with seven pins in the first round," Mac-Hi coach Beau Chester said. "He's having an exceptional year."
Mac-Hi's Jake Morris and Francisco Saldana both reached the finals, but dropped the their championship bouts. Morris finished 4-1 and earned second place in the 160 pound class. Saldana, also 4-1, wound up second at 170.
At 170, Braden Moller finished 4-1 and claimed third place for the Pioneers.
Troy Kessler, at 160, and Taylor Hodgen, at 182, claimed fourth places for Mac-Hi. Kessler and Hodgen both compiled 4-2 marks in earning fourth place hardware.
At 132, Chandler Fortune went 4-1 and fought his way back to a fifth place finish.
"With 20 schools, you never know how the draw will go," Chester said. "To get three kids to the finals and place seven, is pretty awesome. We wrestled beyond expectations."
Mac-Hi returns home Saturday to host its annual Christmas tournament with action beginning at 10 a.m.
