W-M dominates Riverside, 55-36

ATHENA - Weston-McEwen came out of the locker room firing here Saturday in non-conference girls basketball action.

The TigerScots raced to an 18-2 lead after one and Riverside never recovered as W-M went on to post its first win of the year with a 55-36 triumph.

"Our goal was to jump out and press and play good man-to-man defense," W-M coach Amber Doremus said. "We were going aggressively to the basket and made some free throws (8-of-11 in the quarter). The first quarter was awesome."

Morgan Entze converted 10 of her 11 free throw attempts and finished with a game high 18 points to lead the TigerScots.

Molly von Borstel posted a double-double with 12 points and 11 rebounds as the TigerScots evened their record at 1-1.

W-M committed 36 turnovers but made 24-of-38 free throw attempts.

"We have to work on our half court defense, our transition game, and staying in the game mentally," Doremus added. "It was our first time to press and that went well. We did well playing as a whole group."

The TigerScots open Blue Mountain Conference play this weekend, hosting Elgin Friday and Union Saturday.
