WALLA WALLA -- A burn ban for Walla Walla County has been extended through Thursday.
The ban, which went into effect Friday, is due to stagnant air that continues to trap smoke. Along with Walla Walla County, bans are in effect in Chelan, Douglas, Kittitas, Okanogan, Ferry, Stevens counties as well.
The ban applies to all outdoor burning and unnecessary use of uncertified wood-burning devices, including fireplaces, wood stoves and inserts, unless they are a home's only source of heat.
The ban will continue until 10 a.m. Thursday at which time it will be canceled or extended, according to the state Department of Ecology.
