COLLEGE PLACE - Asotin shut down Walla Walla Valley Academy in the second half here Tuesday night and came away with a 34-20 girls Southeast 2B District basketball victory.

The Knights, who won their first two games of the season, appeared to be on their way to victory No. 3 in the first half as they built a 17-13 lead. But the Panthers' defense blanked WWVA in the third quarter and allowed just three points in t2he fourth.

"We only suited up seven players, and it looked like we ran out of gas in the second half," WWVA assistant coach Lloyd Redberg said. "But Asotin extended its defense in the second half, too, so give them some credit.

"But as poor as our offense was, they only scored 21 in the second half," Redberg added. "We were within eight points with 2 1/2 minutes to go. It was still doable; it just didn't happen."

Panthers senior Jalisa Jose did most of the damage as she worked the offensive backboard for 17 points, half of her team's total. No other Panther scored more than four points in the game.

"She's pretty tall, and she's left-handed," Redberg said of Jose. "She got a lot of inside stuff, and most of it came on second chances."

Amy Arnzen knocked down the games only two 3-point baskets and finished with eight points to lead the WWVAA attack. Kristi Buell and Emily Field added five points each.

WWVA, 0-1 in league games, entertains Waitsburg-Prescott Saturday night in another Southeast 2B District game.
