Sweets add UC Irvine fielders Paulino, Cooper


WALLA WALLA - The Walla Walla Sweets continue to add depth to their 2012 roster with the addition of UC Irvine freshmen outfielders Kris Paulino and Ryan Cooper.

Cooper, the 5-foot, 11-inch, 175-pound freshman, is a native of Yorba Linda, Calif., and a graduate of Esperanza High School. As a senior he was selected 2011 Century League Most Valuable Player and received all-county first-team honors. During his senior season he hit .431 with 26 RBI, 11 doubles, four triples, and two homeruns. He set school single-season records with 116 at-bats, 50 hits, and 28 stolen bases. He was selected to the Max Preps All-State second-team and helped his team advance to the CIF Division I finals.

Paulino is a graduate of Tesoro High School and a native of Ladera Ranch, Calif. As a junior in high school, the 6-foot, 180-pound outfielder batted .419 with nine doubles, three triples and one home run. He went on to collect All-South Coast League first-team honors for his junior season. In 94 at-bats as a senior, Paulino had 16 RBI, two doubles, one triple, and five home runs.
