Wa-Hi grapplers spoil Mac-Hi tourney


MILTON-FREEWATER - The Mac-Hi Christmas tournament was spoiled by the visiting Wa-Hi Blue Devils, who pulled off a team win of just four points here Saturday.

Wa-Hi totaled 259 points and Mac-Hi had 255. Chiawana was third with 254, while Heppner and Irrigon trailed in fourth and fifth place.

The varsity and junior varsity wrestlers were all put into one weight class division and both Mac-Hi and Wa-Hi had several multiple placers in select weight classes.

Wa-Hi had seven wrestlers in the finals, with three champions.

Mac-Hi had nine guys in the finals with six champs.

The middle weights were won pre-dominantly by Mac-Hi and the heavier weights went to Wa-Hi.

The six champion wrestlers for Mac-Hi was Chandler Fortune at 132, Blake Yensen at 138, Ryan Bullock (152), Jake Morris (160), Brayden Moeller at 170 and Francisco Saldana weighing in at 182 pounds.

The three champion wrestlers for Wa-Hi were Quinn Tyver at 285, Wil Babbitt at 126 and Anthony Stadler weighing in at 145 pounds.

Fifteen of the total 21 wrestlers for Mac-Hi placed in the top four.

Nineteen of the Wa-Hi wrestlers placed overall.

In the heavier weights, Wa-Hi some second place finishers.

Logan Reardon (220) and Daniel Rodriger (195) both placed second.

Mac-Hi didn't have wrestlers in the 106, 126, 195, 220 and 285 pound weight classes.

While Wa-Hi had a total of about two wrestlers in every class with about fifty total.

Tanner Gorze (113) and Alec Carrera (120) pulled out a second place for Wa-Hi.

Placing second for Mac-Hi was Tavis Hodgen (145) and Troy Kessler at 160 pounds.

Mac-Hi will wrestle again in Pendleton on the 29th of December.

Wa-Hi hits the mats again Thursday at Pasco at 9 a.m.
