MOSES LAKE - Wa-Hi's girls enter the holiday break with a 2-0 Columbia Basin Big Nine record after holding off Moses Lake, 44-39, here Saturday night.

"Moses Lake is always a tough place to play, so to come out of there with a win is great," Blue Devils coach Jill Meliah said.

Torri Crawford led Wa-Hi's effort with 16 points and six rebounds.

"Torri had a really good game," Meliah said. "They had trouble stopping her on the low block

"Kiana Molitor had four steals," she said. "She put defensive pressure on, she was feisty out there."

The Blue Devils opened up a 22-11 halftime lead, and extended that to 35-22 after three quarters. Moses Lake outscored Wa-Hi 18-9 in the final stanza to make a game of it.

"We got lackadaisical in the fourth quarter," Meliah said. "We let down and started fouling, and that how they came back. But we were able to make enough plays down the stretch to hold on for a tough win."

Meliah credited Andrea Hamada with leading the Blue Devils down the stretch.

"Andrea was very much a senior leader tonight," she said. "When it got close down the stretch she tried to take control of our young team."

Wa-Hi, now 6-2 overall and 2-0 in league, heads to a tournament in Wenatchee Dec. 27 and 28. The Blue Devils play at 1 p.m. Dec. 27 against Lake Stevens, and at 11 a.m. Dec. 28 against Snohomish.
