Pomeroy's Knebel extends win streak to 11 matches

Tory Knebel wins his lone match Tuesday, a 2-1 decision over Colfax's Justin King.

POMEROY - Tory Knebel extended his unbeaten record to 11-0 while teammates Austin Reisdorph and Wyatt Jenkins suffered their first losses of the season here Tuesday as six small schools gathered for a mixed bag of prep wrestling competition.

Knebel, Pomeroy's defending state champion at 160 pounds, won his only match of the night with a 2-1 decision over Justin King of Colfax.

Knebel and King met in a 170-pound match, the weight at which Pirates coach Brian Slaybaugh expects Knebel to compete at throughout the season.

"It was a close match for Tory, but he was battling a little bit of a flu bug," Slaybaugh said. "But he's looking good, just coming off winning the Down River Challenge last weekend in Cathlamet."

Reisdorph, wrestling at 195, won his first match by decision but was then pinned in the first round of his second and saw his season mark slip to 11-1.

Jenkins, one of three Pirates to wrestle at 160 pounds, also earned a decision victory before suffering a loss by fall and is now 11-1 for the year.

Slaybaugh said he saw some good things from several of his wrestlers in what amounted to individual competition with no team scores tabulated.

"I thought Mike Wymore wrestled well, Tyler King is starting to come along and Jacob Moore is really looking good," Slaybaugh said. "I thought some of our kids did pretty well. We lost some matches, but we also beat some pretty tough kids."

Wymore, wrestling at 220, won a pair of matches by pin and suffered a 7-6 decision loss.

King registered a pair of pins and was also pinned once at 160.

And Moore notched two decision wins at 145.

In addition to Pomeroy and Colfax, Lind-Ritzville, St. John-Endicott, Liberty-Spangle and Waitsburg-Prescott entered wrestlers here Tuesday night. Waitsburg-Prescott did not submit results of its individual wrestlers.

The Pirates are off for Christmas and will return to action next Tuesday when they entertain Colfax, Pateros and possibly Waitsburg-Prescott in another round of individual competition.
