WALLA WALLA -- A man who allegedly led authorities on a 25-minute vehicle chase through Walla Walla and into the county this week has been formally charged in Superior Court with two crimes.
Daniel D. Brasel, 49, of 121 Malcolm St., was charged Tuesday afternoon with attempting to elude a pursuing police vehicle, which is a felony, and third-degree driving while license suspended, a misdemeanor.
Police said an officer tried to stop Brasel's vehicle in the Safeway parking lot at 215 E. Rose Street about 10:35 p.m. on Monday because Brasel's driving status was suspended.
Despite lights and siren from the patrol vehicle, Brasel allegedly drove though the parking lot, headed south on Palouse and ultimately south on Howard Street.
"The vehicle came to a dead end in a subdivision, and continued on through a wheat field where it eventually came back to a road," according to a police report filed in court.
The vehicle continued into the county, but stopped at a closed gate across Pike's Peak Road, the police report says.
Brasel was taken into custody about 11 p.m. and booked into the County Jail.
Bail later was set at $50,000.
