Christmas closures

The Christmas holiday is Sunday. The following closures or special hours or days of service will be in effect.

OFFICE BUILDINGS: All federal and state offices will be closed Monday. Walla Walla and Umatilla county offices will be closed Monday. Columbia and Garfield county offices will be closed Friday and Monday. City of Walla Walla offices will be closed Monday. City of College Place office will be open a half day Friday and closed Monday and Tuesday. Milton-Freewater city offices will be closed Friday and Monday.

POST OFFICES: Post offices will be closed and the only service will be express delivery.

BANKS: All banks will be closed Monday.

SCHOOLS: Schools will be closed through Jan. 2.

LIQUOR STORES: Washington liquor stores will be open 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Christmas Eve, closed Sunday and open 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday. The Milton-Freewater liquor store will be open Saturday, closed Sunday and open Monday.

DEPT. OF LICENSING: The Department of Licensing office on Jade Street in Walla Walla will be closed Saturday. It will open again Tuesday.

TRANSPORTATION: Valley Transit will only operate Job Access program Sunday. Normal service will resume Monday but business offices will be closed.

DAM CROSSINGS: Crossings on Lower Granite, Little Goose and Lower Monumental dams will be closed.

LIBRARIES: The Walla Walla Public Library will be open regular hours Saturday. It will be closed Sunday and Monday. The Milton-Freewater Public Library will be closed Friday through Monday. It will reopen Tuesday.

GARBAGE: The city of Walla Walla and city of Milton-Freewater will collect Monday's garbage on Tuesday. Recycling pickup for Walla Walla residents will be on the same schedule. Basin Disposal will collect on its regular schedules but earlier than usual. Customers need to have it out by the night before.

NEWSPAPER DELIVERY: The Walla Walla Union-Bulletin typically does not publish on Christmas. The exception is when Christmas falls on a Sunday because readers and advertisers do not want to forgo the Sunday newspaper with all of its special features.

This week's Sunday paper will be published early Saturday afternoon and carriers will complete their deliveries by 6 p.m. Saturday. Subscribers who have not received their newspaper by 6 p.m. Saturday may call the Circulation Department at 525-3301 until 7 p.m. Saturday. The U-B offices will be closed to the public on Sunday and Monday. The Monday newspaper will be published and delivered on a normal afternoon schedule.
