POMEROY - The Grangeville, Idaho, Bulldogs romped past Pomeroy Tuesday night, building a 38-7 lead through the first half before coasting a to a 64-27 victory over the Pirates in an interstate match.

The Pirates were missing senior guard Haylee Koller, who was lost to a season-ending knee injury Friday.

Pomeroy coach Nettie Severs said the team didn't find out the severity of the injury until Tuesday, and the news affected the players' moral.

"The girls played the first half like they weren't ready to play," Severs said. "With her out, we only have one senior and a bunch of sophomores, so we have a really young team now."

No Pirate broke double figures in the loss. Sophomore guard Torrie Koller, Haylee's sister, led Pomeroy scorers with eight points.

"This was a tough game for us," Severs said. "We struggled with Grangeville's pressure in the first half. The second half was better, we were able to execute on offense and put some shots in. We also played better defensively in the second half."

Severs said the Bulldogs played both a half-court trap and full-court press which threw the Pirates off their game.

The Pirate are now 1-3 in the Southeast 1B and 3-5 overall.

Pomeroy next hosts DeSales Jan. 3.
