LA GRANDE - Weston-McEwen's girls finally ran out of steam in the championship game of the Optimist Tournament here Friday night.

The TigerScots, after routing Joseph, 82-18, to open the tourney Wednesday before rallying past Union, 50-48, on Thursday, fell to Powder Valley in the title matchup, 47-40.

Weston-McEwen was outscored 12-3 in the opening quarter and couldn't overcome the deficit.

"For us, fatigue played a huge role," TigerScots coach Amber Doremus said. "This was the first three-day tournament and first championship game Weston-McEwen's girls have played in in a number of years. The girls were battling, but a lack of energy caused too many errors."

Morgan Entze led the TigerScots with 10 points, with Taylor Rudolph and Molly von Borstel picking up six apiece and Taryn Coffman and Marlene Bodmer five each.

Weston-McEwen next plays in the Christmas Classic at Whitman College's Sherwood Center beginning Tuesday. The TigerScots open the tournament against Liberty Christian at 4:30 p.m. Tuesday on Sherwood's auxiliary court.

"We hope to be more competitive on day three of this tournament, and build a tournament mentality," Doremus said.
