WALLA WALLA --Walla Walla Community Hospice will begin new grief support groups for adults and children in January.
The adult group will begin Jan. 4 and meet every Wednesday through March 7, from 10-11:30 a.m, at the hospice office, 1067 Isaacs Ave., Walla Walla.
The hospice bereavement team will facilitate the group. The book "Understanding Your Grief," by Dr. Allan Wolfelt, is used as a guideline.
A group for children ages 6 - 12 will begin Jan. 10 and continue Jan. 24, Feb. 7 and 21, and March 6. The group will meet from 5:30 - 7 p.m. at the Walla Walla YMCA, 340 S. Park St.
The bereavement team will use children's literature, videos and art to help children process their thoughts and feelings related to the person they have lost. Participants will also have time for play at the YMCA.
Participation is free. Participants for the adult group are asked to register before Jan. 2 by calling the hospice office at 525-5561 or emailing firstname.lastname@example.org. Children's group registration should be done before Jan. 6.
The non-profit Walla Walla Community Hospice provides care to adults and children facing death. Care also addresses the needs of the patients' family members, including grief and bereavement counseling for up to 12 months following the death of a patient.
Grief support groups are offered to anyone living in Walla Walla, Columbia and northeast Umatilla counties.
